About this treatment

Non-ablative lasers, like the ones used with the M22 laser system, are a popular choice for both aesthetic practitioners and patients for Skin Resurfacing in Hampshire. This is due to the outstanding results they produce without causing damage to untreated skin and tissues.

At Prema we may recommend either the Stellar IPL or ResurFX application module to effectively resurface your skin at our clinic in Portsmouth, Hampshire. This will depend on the specific conditions we’re intending to treat. The treatment works by delivering high-octane beams of light to the surface of the skin which infiltrate to the deeper layers. Addressing the skin at a cellular level means the laser can target the damaged cells where light energy turns to heat energy, fragmenting the unwanted skin cells so they can be disposed of naturally by the body. The body’s systems will remove these cells by encouraging them to rise to the surface, when they will flake and fall off.

In More Detail

This type of skin resurfacing in Hampshire is also known as photorejuvenation. It’s popularity is due to the naturally induced responses by the body which help to repair and replenish the complexion. The results will emerge as the targeted skin layers are removed and new, healthy skin replaces them. Optimal results often require a course of up 3-4 sessions, performed every 2 weeks. After your treatment course the final results will gradually become noticeable over a 2-3 week period as new skin cells regenerate. Maintaining smooth, evenly toned skin often requires an annual / bi-annual top-up.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is Skin Resurfacing in Hampshire for me?

Skin resurfacing using the M22 laser is found to be suitable for almost all skin types. This is because it doesn’t use chemicals to induce the skin’s repair response, and uses ‘light’, which is a natural resource. Skin resurfacing is an effective way to improve the look and feel of the skin, especially for those who are concerned with the appearance of sun damage or the visible effects of ageing.

2. Is this treatment safe?

This treatment is considered to be very safe for many skin types. At Prema you will always be required to attend a private pre-treatment consultation to determine your suitability for treatment. At this session we will assess your skin health and medical history, as well as the conditions you wish to treat.

3. Will laser treatment / IPL produce permanent results?

The longevity of the results will largely depend on the conditions we are treating. For hyperpigmentation, age spots and sun damage, the outcome may be permanent. However, if we’re addressing lines and wrinkles and lax skin, you may need to have regular treatments. This is because the ageing process will continue to play out, and its effects will continue to develop.

4. Which areas can be treated?

Laser skin resurfacing is mainly performed on the face, neck and decolletage, and we can also treat the arms and hands. The M22 laser is gentle enough to treat sensitive areas, such as around the eyes and mouth.

5. Is the treatment painful?

Although many patients do not report feeling ‘pain’ during the treatment, some very minor discomfort would not be unusual. The skin may also get warm, but the advanced air cooling device will ensure the skin doesn’t become hot.

6. Are there any side effects?

Any side effects as a result of the M22 laser treatment are usually minor, and will resolve within a few days. You can expect the skin to be a little red immediately following treatment. This can be followed by some itching and tightening, before the top layers start to expel (flake) – this may take around 5 days.

Conditions Treated

ResurFX skin resurfacing is used to treat uneven skin texture, roughness, and early signs of ageing. It is commonly chosen to improve the appearance of fine lines, enlarged pores, and overall dull or tired-looking skin. ResurFX can also help soften mild scarring and refine areas where the skin looks creased or less smooth, particularly on the face and neck. It may be used to improve uneven skin tone, including mild pigmentation and sun damage, supporting a clearer, fresher, more rejuvenated complexion.
