Pigmentation Treatment

About this treatment

Lumenis is a world-leading manufacturer of energy-based aesthetic devices, and produces the M22 laser. This is a multi-application platform that enables the use of various technologies from a single modular system.

Stellar IPL is a form of photorejuvenation therapy for the skin that helps to reduce the appearance of age spots, melasma and freckles (among other concerns). It delivers controlled pulses of light energy deep into the skin through a single handpiece that moves gently over the skin’s surface. When treating pigmentation at our Hampshire clinic, the light emitted from the laser is absorbed by the melanin in the pigmented cells (which is darker), which turns to heat and breaks them down. These are then naturally disposed of by the body as they move to the surface of the skin.

The ResurFX applicator is used more frequently on uneven skin that is also affected by discolouration. In most cases this is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), caused by burns, acne or sun damage.

The M22 laser is a pigmentation treatment at our clinic in Hampshire that can be used to improve a multitude of skin concerns, triggering a specific response, depending on how the skin is affected. Using light energy to rejuvenate the skin creates a natural reaction at the required depth, improving its texture and tone from the inside out. As light energy turns to heat, the internal cells and fibrous tissues are stimulated which replenishes the entire complexion for long term results.

1. Is this treatment suitable for me?

M22 laser by Lumenis is a non-invasive pigmentation treatment in Hampshire that can rejuvenate the look and feel of the skin. As it doesn’t use chemicals or pierce the skin, it is found to be suitable for very many people, and almost all skin types.

2. Is this treatment safe?

M22 laser is a very safe pigmentation treatment in Hampshire which uses light energy to rejuvenate the skin. The device uses a range of different filter lenses which determine the required wavelengths of light, depending on the condition it is being used to treat.

3. Will laser treatment / IPL produce permanent results?

Removing areas of pigmentation is highly effective with the M22 laser. In most cases of age spots and small patches of discolouration, the pigmented cells are totally and permanently removed. In more significant cases, we can produce dramatic results with a noticeable improvement in skin tone. A tailored treatment plan will outline the number of treatment sessions needed to reach the desired end result.

4. Which areas can be treated?

The M22 laser can be used on various areas of the body, including: face, chest / decolletage, arms, legs, shoulders, back and stomach.

5. Is the treatment painful?

As a non-invasive treatment, the procedure is also described as being pain-free. You may feel the skin becoming warmer as the laser reaches the deeper layers of the skin, but this is not hot, and many patients find it quite soothing. The ResurFX handpiece is fitted with a contact cooling system that monitors the temperature of the skin.

6. Are there any side effects?

For many patients the only reported side effect is warm, reddened skin. This is usually very minor and wears off within a few hours of treatment. You will need to ensure you care for your skin properly in the days that follow treatment as the skin may be more sensitive than normal. This will include using gentle products and ensuring you have applied sun protection before going outside.

Conditions Treated

IPL is widely used to treat unwanted pigmentation and uneven skin tone caused by sun exposure and ageing. It is commonly chosen for sun spots, age spots, freckles, and patchy pigmentation on the face, neck, chest, and hands. IPL can also help reduce the appearance of post-inflammatory pigmentation, including lingering marks left after breakouts or irritation. By targeting areas of excess pigment, IPL supports a clearer, brighter complexion and a more even-looking skin tone, with reduced visible discolouration.
